Group keyboard classes for 4-9 year olds

About

Rachael O'Gorman

I am a 35 year old qualified classroom Music teacher. I started learning the piano at 7 years old and the violin at 8 years old. I have Grade 8 piano and Grade 8 violin qualifications with ABRSM and a further Piano Diploma with LRSM.

I belonged to many orchestras as I grew up. I led the school and country orchestras and was privileged to be part of the Four Counties Youth Orchestra, and the Cardiff University Orchestra. Being a part of these gave me great social skills, and helped me to develop my ability to work in a group. Music was fun! I worked hard and made many friends along the way, as well as learning lots of life skills including commitment, a good work ethic and a sense of confidence.

I accompanied the school Junior Orchestra on the piano and was invited to accompany the Caerphilly Male Voice Choir rehearsals at the age of 16. This gave me a greater social experience to develop my piano performance skills in addition to taking private lessons.

At the age of 15 I started teaching piano privately, which I continued through my secondary school education, university and beyond. I have experience in teaching younger children through to adults, and have helped children prepare for school performance exams and specific piano music exams.

I gained a Music Degree (BMus) at Cardiff University and went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Education in UWIC. I was a classroom Music teacher in a secondary school for 9 years, and after taking voluntary redundancy wanted to start a new venture.

As a mum of two young children I have been inspired to combine my music and classroom experience to teach a younger age group, focussing on keyboard skills. I wanted to create a unique social experience for children to learn and enjoy music as much as I have and that’s when Keybra began.
